Week 4 - Still Chillin' in Chile

September 13, 2017

Hola Familia y Amigos,

With our teachers of the past 3 weeks.
Wednesday: We got a new companions and missionaries this week! 40 new ones. They´re all a lot of fun but it´s definitely a new dynamic. One of the latinas dm'd me on instagram before we got here and instantly recognized me when she got here! We´re going to the same mission and she´s really sweet. We got an empanada and walked to the big mall. And, also, I really just love my district, we have lots of fun together.

Thursday: We went contacting in the city today! We walked over to the park by Liders and talked to people for an hour, which really made me get out of my comfort zone. But we talked to a young man, probably 16 or 17 who was really nice. He talked to us for a little and took a Book of Mormon and we got his number. Then we talked to another lady outside the ghetto mall who was super, super nice and friendly to us. Her family is Catholic, but she´s not very religious. We gave her a Book of Mormon and she said she would read it and share it with her family! She said she really respects what we do and thinks there are a lot of people that need God in their lives. And she really likes our temple.  She says it's pretty. I'd have to agree :) But literally talking to her was just what I needed because most people here aren't the friendliest, but it showed me that there are people here who are prepared to receive the gospel!!

Friday: OH, man I went proselyting with the missionaries today!! They took us in a bus out to the Santiago North mission and I got to go on splits with 2 of the hermanas there! Oh, man, it made me so incredibly excited for the field. We taught appointments, and one of them was to a man who came here from Haiti. He spoke English, so I got to bear my testimony and teach a little in English! It was super refreshing, but I can't wait until I can do that in Spanish. And they literally talk to everyone. It´s super cool they have no fear, ha ha. I also placed a Book of Mormon and talked to a guy who agreed to have the missionaries come visit. I know these are just little things but really I'm just so excited for when I get to do this every day!
With my companions:)I

Saturday: One of the area presidency members came and spoke to us, and it was super good. Our district also sang a musical number, "Nearer my God to Thee," which was fun. We actually sound good:)

Sunday: I just love Sundays. I think I say that every week, but it's because it's true ha ha. I taught Relief Society again because all of the other sisters were new and it went so super good. We had a discussion about faith and I had went through and found a lot of scripture stories about faith and we went through symbolism and discussed a lot. Ah, man, I just love the scriptures.  There's so much we can learn from them and develop our own faith through the testimonies of others!!

Monday: My district was kinda down because the new gringo group knows a lot of Spanish (because they took it for a long time in high school) and it's frustrating sometimes, but I found really good scriptures: Moses 6:34 and Alma 37:40-41. I related it to a Cross Country race when the coach tells you he needs you to pass 3 girls or something, because he can see the bigger picture. And even though you feel you can't push harder, you do because you your coach (or God) needs you to and has given you the bigger picture. Hopefully that made sense, ha ha.

Tuesday: Played futbol (soccer) with the latinos, ha ha. They're so good, it's crazy. But lots of fun! And, yeah, a pretty normal day.

Today we get to go to the temple again! It's been closed for the last two weeks for cleaning but I'm super excited!! and I also saw Connor Burnett, a friend from high school, too. It's super crazy seeing all these connections from back home! Also, the pictures are with our teachers from the last 3 weeks. I love them so much. They've helped us through a lot and really are so Christlike. The Hermana teacher (Hermana J) is leaving in December to study at BYU, so if you see her (I mean probably not, but if ya do, help her out for me:) We got new ones last week who are super great too!
Me and Hermana J.

Hope you are doing good! I pray and think about you all the time. Remember God is always there for you, all you have to do is ask!

Much love,
Hermana Briggs
